Principal's Message

Tyee Staff, Students, and Families,

As an educator, parent, and community member, I am excited to launch the 2026-2027 school year! We are committed to continuing our "tradition of excellence" while striving to provide the best educational experience possible for every student every day. Our academic mission is to increase student achievement for all students while closing the gap between the highest and lowest achieving students as measured by grades, STAR, and SBA. Each year, we identify a new area of focus for our staff while building on our work from previous years:

  • 2023-24: Aligned Instructional Systems (Standards Based Instruction, Common Curriculum Maps, Common Assessments) and Schoolwide Literacy Supports (emphasis on non-fiction, academic texts; common text annotations; responding to texts using Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning).
  • 2024-25: Tier 1 Instruction: Increasing Intellectual Engagement.
  • 2025-26: Intellectual Engagement: Rigor, Relevance, Voice, and Choice.
  • 2025-26: Increased outcomes through professional collaboration and alignment: What do we expect students to learn? How will we know if they’ve learned it? What will we do when students don’t learn it? What will we do when students do learn it?

Tyee Recipe for student Success:

  • Have a vision for your future self. Know what you’re working toward.
  • Spend quality time with your family every day.
  • Surround yourself with successful friends.
  • Get 8 hours of sleep daily.
  • Eat healthy every day.
  • Get at least 20 minutes of exercise daily.
  • Spend no more than 1 hour of screen time daily.
  • Spend at least 1 hour outside daily.
  • Maintain a daily/weekly/monthly calendar to manage your busy schedule.
  • Spend at least 20 minutes per day on homework (but no more than an hour).
  • Maintain at least 90% attendance at school.
  • No late or missing assignments. Ever.
  • Ask questions when you have them.
